What is the nervous system and how does it play a role in healing?

The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that transmit signals throughout the body, playing a crucial role in how we feel, think, and respond to the world around us. It can be divided into two main parts:

  1. Central Nervous System (CNS) – The brain and spinal cord, responsible for processing information and controlling bodily functions.

  2. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) – All the nerves outside the CNS that carry messages to and from the brain, affecting everything from muscle movement to heart rate.

How the Nervous System Functions:

  • The autonomic nervous system (ANS), a subset of the PNS, controls involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing. It is split into two parts: the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) (rest and digest). When the body is under stress, the SNS kicks in, which can lead to heightened states of anxiety, fatigue, and other physical symptoms.

In times of chronic stress (whether physical, emotional, or mental), the nervous system can become dysregulated, leading to a cascade of issues in the body, such as:

  • Adrenal fatigue

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Digestive issues

  • Mental health struggles like anxiety and depression

How ThetaHealing and Acupuncture Can Help Recalibrate the Nervous System:

  3. Clear Energy Blocks: Trauma (especially narcissistic abuse, sexual, religious, bullying or other harmful experiences) can create energetic blocks in the body. These blocks can disrupt the nervous system’s balance, leaving individuals stuck in negative patterns of behavior and thought. This allows you to release these blocks, reset your energy field, and bring the body back to a state of harmony. During our sessions we can also “rewrite your story.”

  4. Recalibrate the Nervous System: By shifting limiting beliefs and clearing old wounds, the nervous system can be recalibrated, reducing anxiety, stress, and emotional overload. This recalibration fosters a sense of peace, grounding, and balance. As the nervous system resets, the body’s response to stress becomes more regulated, creating space for emotional and physical healing.

The Role of Pregnancy, Childhood Trauma, and Narcissistic Abuse:

  • Pregnancy Stress: When a mother is stressed or emotionally unsettled during pregnancy, it can influence the baby’s development. Studies have shown that children of mothers who experienced high stress levels during pregnancy may be more prone to emotional and behavioral challenges. The child can be born with a heightened fight-or-flight response, often leading to difficulties in regulating their own emotions and nervous system. By healing the mother's emotional state, both the mother and child can experience healing and balance.

  • Childhood Trauma: Traumatic experiences from childhood, whether emotional, physical, or psychological, create an imprint on the nervous system. The body often holds on to the memory of these experiences, leading to emotional dysregulation, anxiety, or even physical ailments. In working together, these old emotional imprints can be cleared, helping the individual to release the past and step into a future of health, peace, and vitality.

  • Narcissistic Abuse: Narcissistic abuse can be particularly damaging to the nervous system, creating a perpetual state of fear, confusion, and emotional instability. The constant emotional manipulation, gaslighting, and invalidation experienced in abusive relationships can lead to lasting effects on one's self-esteem, emotional regulation, and overall mental health. During our sessions we can start to release these patterns through awareness and rebuild a person’s sense of self-worth, trust, and emotional stability.
